Bonfire Season Is Here: Your October Firewood Guide for Hocking Hills

Seasonal · September 12, 2026 · 7 min read

October in a Hocking Hills cabin without a bonfire is like October without color — technically possible, entirely wrong. Bonfire season runs September through November, and it peaks right now. Here's how to set it up.

How much wood to order

Trip typeWhat to order
One evening fire (3–4 hours)Half a tote
Weekend with two evening fires1 tote ($35)
Full weekend with late nights2 totes ($60)
Group weekend or event3 totes ($75)

When in doubt, order one more than you think. Running out on Saturday night is the preventable disaster. Leftover firewood isn't a problem — the next guest will use it, or your cabin operator will appreciate the gesture.

What we deliver

Properly seasoned hardwood — primarily oak and hickory, with cherry and maple in the mix. Seasoned means split and dried for months: it lights easily, burns hot and long, and doesn't smoke up the campsite like green wood does. Every delivery includes kindling and a fire starter, so you don't need to bring anything except a lighter.

Why not to bring wood from home

Ohio's invasive-pest quarantines strongly discourage transporting firewood across counties. Emerald ash borer, spotted lanternfly, and spongy moth all ride on firewood — bringing wood from Columbus or Cleveland to Hocking County is how these pests spread. Buy local, burn local. It's better wood anyway.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much firewood do I need for a weekend?

One tote ($35) covers two casual evening fires (3–4 hours each). A full group weekend with late nights: two totes ($60). We include kindling and fire starters with every delivery.

Can I bring firewood from home?

You shouldn't. Ohio's invasive-pest rules discourage transporting firewood between counties. Emerald ash borer, spotted lanternfly, and spongy moth all hitchhike on firewood. Buy seasoned local wood instead.
